Day 2 - Truckee to Salt Lake City - Weds Aug 4 2021
My drivers were sleepy heads and didn't get going very quickly today. They didn't leave Truckee until 8:30. I shall be putting them on gruel and water if this continues.
We had a long drive today, as you can see in this image. Fortunately they had me to help them with the navigation on these roads. It's pretty strenuous for a well-educated and intelligent pickle like me to keep grasp it, but with my help my drivers were able to stay on the straight and narrow.
We did make a lovely stop for lunch - something I insist on whether we're hungry or not. Here I am digging into a delicious cheese (thanks Isabelle!) cracker in Main Park, Elko, Nevada. Believe it or not it actually started raining which, at 95F, felt a little weird!
We spent the afternoon listening to that fascinating story 'The Boys In The Boat' - compelling listening, especially with the Olympics being on this year! But we didn't finish it, so that'll be fun to listen again tomorrow. I can't wait to get back on the road to find out what happens!
Our day ended in Murray, an eastern suburb of Salt Lake City. Murray is blessed with a marvelous park, Murray City Park (amazingly creative name, don't you think? I wonder how they figured that one out?). Its got beautiful flowers, loads of sports facilities, running potable water, flat places to park. A wonderful find that my driver Jane figured out (clearly she's the one with the smarts amongst those two - that other chap can be a little dim at times, is my observation). Anyway, here's the view out of our van this evening:
OK - time for dinner! I'm hungry. Talk to you tomorrow!
Well Mr Pickles, looks like you're taking to this travelling around pretty well for a plant that's supposed to put its roots down (..well a little bit) and shoots up, securely staring at the same piece of landscape all its life. I fear you might be taking a lot of risk by putting your life in the hands of what were, until very recently, a pair of total strangers.
ReplyDeletePersonally, after a life rushing around all over the place, I'm just becoming used to a more sedentary, secure and safe lifestyle, being looked after by the future Mrs Two Toes. Not as exciting as life on the road, but I don't spill my beer and am tucked up in my own bed every night!
You might like your drivers to read you something like "https://www.kindbook.com/cactus.htm" or "https://www.storyjumper.com/book/read/1321534/The-Lonely-Cactus" (Careful with this one, you might need a discreet tissue or two)
Anyway, I shall be following your adventures with interest.
Silly me; I thought I’d get notifications of new blog posts, and was starting to feel concern for the safety of the trio. I know better now. Glad Mr Pickles got a snack.
ReplyDeleteHi, I am enjoying the Mr Pickles great big adventure theme....Bella and me are off on our own adventure to Clun tomorrow, still suffering with my back but hope to get back on the bike in a few days, I am already watching you 2 and feeling like I should be fully retired myself!
